To Doug Schneider,
I read your review of Revel's F206 speakers with interest since I am considering purchasing a pair. I was wondering if you were familiar with the Monitor Audio Silver 10s, and if you had any comment on a comparison between the two, and which would be better value as they are similar in price. I have looked into both products and listened to both, unfortunately at separate retailers, so I didn't get a chance to hear them back to back.
Any input is appreciated.
Thanks,

I’ve never listened to the Monitor Audio Silver 10, but fellow-reviewer Philip Beaudette recently reviewed the Silver 6 for SoundStage! Access and found the speaker’s build and performance to be outstanding for the price -- so much so that we gave the 6 a Reviewers’ Choice award. If the Silver 10 is even better, it’s bound to be an outstanding buy.
Obviously, I just reviewed the F206 and liked it a lot; in fact, it’s my favorite speaker in that price range right now. As a result, if you bought a pair of F206es, you certainly wouldn’t be going wrong. Ultimately, however, you must decide which is the best speaker for you -- I really can’t decide that for anyone.
That said, the one thing I will point out is that, to me, they’re not that close in price. The Silver 10 retails for $2500/pair in the United States, while the F206 retails for $3500/pair. I could see that being a big enough difference to sway someone to the Silver 10 if their budget is limited. If the $1000 price difference isn’t that big a deal, though, then either speaker is fair game. . . . Doug Schneider
